EC310F – Sports Economics

I have taught a course in Sports Economics three times in 2020/2021, and my expectation is that I will teach it again in Spring 2022 (my teaching schedule is not confirmed beyond Winter 2022).

Over the first three offerings of the course, I have taken different approaches with regard to course textbooks and assessment. In part, this was defined by a shift from in-person learning to remote learning, but it was also because I haven’t found a combination that fits my own teaching preferences. As a result, one of my goals leading up to Spring 2022 is to have a functional (though maybe not complete) set of my own course notes for students.

The course notes are intended to provide the intermediate-level economics background necessary to make the academic literature accessible, including topics such as game theory, labour markets, pricing and price discrimination, league design features such as entry drafts and salary caps, and the public finance of professional sports. As those notes are completed, I may post a version of them here.
